FUNCTIONS AND ACTIVITIES

To provide free legal service to the needy.

To endeavor in resolving the disputes locally.

During the course of legal services, if the lawyer feels that the dispute between two locally available parties can be resolved through proper advice or by employing ADR techniques, he /she shall make an effort to do so, without permitting the dispute to enter into litigation.

In appropriate cases, the lawyers may request the nearest legal services institution having territorial jurisdiction to refer the dispute to Lok Adalat for a pre-litigation settlement.

Representation by an Advocate in legal proceedings before the lower courts, High Courts and also before the Supreme Court of India at any stage of the case as long as you are eligible to attain free legal services payment of fees and expenses such as the process fees, administrative charges such as his affidavit, court fees, etc., expenses of witnesses and all other charges payable or incurred during or in relation to any legal proceedings in appropriate cases paid by the person availing the legal aid, however, case to case discretionary decision can be taken by Kartavyam; Preparation documents such as of pleadings, memo of appeal, paper book including printing and translation of documents in legal proceedings; Drafting of legal documents, special leave petition, etc.

Supply of certified copies of judgments, orders, notes of evidence, and other documents in legal proceedings. (Printing and other charges apart from legal counsel and drafting to be borne by the person availing the service)

TO HAVE A TEAM OF PARA-LEGAL VOLUNTEERS

-Para-Legal Volunteers may be deputed to work in the legal aid clinics for assisting the lawyer and the seekers of legal aid.

-Para-legal volunteers can be used for drafting simple petitions, applications and for accompanying the seekers of legal aid to the government offices for interacting with the officials for solving the problems of such seekers of legal aid.

-Para-Legal Volunteers shall generate awareness through virtual medium about the benefits of settlement of disputes including pre-litigation stage through Lok Adalat’s, Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration.

PARA-LEGAL VOLUNTEERS MAY INCLUDE

  • Teachers (including retired teachers)
  • Retired Government servants and senior citizens.
  • M.S. W (Master of Social Work) students and teachers.
  • Anganwadi Workers.
  • Doctors/Physicians.
  • Students & Law Students (till they enroll as lawyers).
  • Members of non-political, service-oriented NGOs and Clubs.
  • Members of Women Neighbourhood Groups, MaithriSanghams, and other
  • Self Help Groups including of marginalized/vulnerable groups.

METHOD OF SELECTION OF PARA-LEGAL

 

The Selection Committee is entitled to use its discretion and shortlist the number of candidates for interview depending upon the number of applications received. Representation from suitable applicants belonging to SC/ST, minority, and other backward classes must be ensured.

To have a team of Interns who shall conduct surveys and prepare reports. To spread legal literacy and awareness by:

  • organizing virtual awareness campaigns
  • conducting programs via various social media platforms
  • arranging workshops on legal topics for various functionaries of the legal systems such as lawyers, students, Non-Governmental Organizations, and Government agencies.
